Retail point-of-sale software: a checklist before you buy

The point of sale is where money meets stock. If the software is slow, customers queue; if it is weak, goods disappear without you knowing where. Here is a practical checklist before you choose.

Checkout

  • Fast barcode sales and documented returns.
  • Tax receipts with the e-invoice QR code.
  • A cash over/short report per cashier at the end of the shift.
  • Works without internet, so sales never stop when the connection drops.

Stock per branch

If you have more than one branch, ask: is stock kept separately per branch? Can you transfer between branches? Does a stock count show the differences item by item (missing or extra)? Regular stock counts are the strongest tool for exposing waste and theft.

Purchasing and suppliers

Receiving goods against a supplier raises stock automatically and keeps the purchase cost, so you know your real margin per item. Record damaged and written-off goods with their reason.

Customers and loyalty

  • Loyalty points customers earn and redeem.
  • Promotions with start and end dates, and gift cards with an expiry date.
  • A list of customers who stopped buying, to invite them back.

Reports

Daily sales, sales by branch, best-selling items, loyalty points and stock count differences. That is enough for buying and pricing decisions every week.

Your data stays with you

Bawabetna's program runs on the store's own computers with the records encrypted with you, and separate permissions for the owner, branch manager, cashier and stock keeper. You can import items and customers from your previous software and try the program free with no time limit.
